THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
The Murder of 1 Million Based on Race
"You can talk about Holocaust denial, but it's really marginal for the most part.
What is compelling about the Armenian genocide, is how it has been forgotten."
-Atom Egoyan
Beginning in the year 1915, ethnic Armenians living in the declining Ottoman Empire were rounded up, deported and executed on orders of the government. The combination of massacres, forced deportation marches and deaths due to disease in concentration camps is estimated to have killed roughly 1.5 million ethnic Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks between 1915 and 1923. The Turkish government systematically destroyed these people in attempts to unify all of the Turkish people by creating a new empire with one language and one religion, through concentration camps, massacres, death marches, and disease.
